Sean
Sovacool starts his second year as the head football coach defending
the Avocado West Championship after coaching 6 very productive
years at Palomar Community College as the Comets linebackers
coach and Special Teams Teams Coordinator.
Sean's
prep career started at Fallbrook Union High School where he
was a two time 1st Team All Avocado League and All North County
Selection, and a 1st Team All CIF selection as a Middle Linebacker
for the CIF Division I champions under head coach Randy Blankenship.
From Fallbrook Sean played two seasons at Palomar Community
College under Tom Craft and Joe Early respectively. While attending
Palomar, Sean was a 1st Team Mission Conference Selection as
well as a 1st Team Academic All American for the nationally
4th ranked Palomar Comets.
Upon
the completion of Sean's playing time at Palomar, he was awarded
a full athletic scholarship to Northern Arizona University to
play football for head coach Jerome Souers and the NAU Lumberjacks.
After two seasons of competition and course work with the Lumberjacks
as a Big Sky Conference Champion his junior year and, finishing
his senior year third on the team in tackles, Coach Sovacool
obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science.
After
graduating from NAU as a Big Sky All-Academic selection, Coach
Sovacool came back to San Diego and obtained his teaching credential
in Social Science and PE from Cal State San Marcos and his Masters
in Education from Cal State University Bakersfield. While coaching
football at Palomar, Coach Sovacool was also the Coordinator
of the Athletic Study Hall, and an adjunct instructor with the
Athletics, Physical Education, and Counseling Department.
Coach
Sovacool is a full time Physical Education teacher at La Costa
Canyon High School. He and his beautiful wife of three years
Bryn Kuech Sovacool, a nurse at Rady's Childrens Hospital in
San Diego, and mother of the newest edition to the Maverick
family, Lyla Rose Sovacool, reside in San Marcos. Sean's brothers
and sister also teach and coach. His oldest brother Michael
Sovacool coaches football and teaches social science at Orange
Glen High School, his youngest brother, Casey Sovacool is the
head JV Football coach and full time Special Education teacher
at La Costa Canyon High, and his sister Molly Sovacool will
be entering her second year teaching and coaching career at
Mesa Murrieta as coaching basketball and track as well as teaching
American Sign Language. Coach Sovacool's parents Mike Sovacool,
a retired Lt Col from the Marine Corps, and Mary Kay Sovacool,
an ER nurse at the Naval Hospital in Camp Pendleton and antique
entrepreneur for the Urban Barn in Escondido, still reside in
Fallbrook.

KICKING
SPECIALIST COACHES
In
his second season with the Mavericks, William Bennett
is a Sophomore at LCC in 2011 who brings a large amount
of football knowledge gained on NFL fields from a young
age. His observation skills and understanding of technical
details of the kicking and punting game allow William
to coach every level from beginners through to NFL level
punters and kickers. Will's presence was valuable addition
to the Mavericks in 2010 and will continue to help young
specialists develop in season 2011.
Also
in his 2nd season is Darren Bennett, working with Punters
and Snappers at LCC. Bennett is an 11 year NFL veteran
as well as a mentor to many current NFL and NCAA players.
After securing a tryout with the San Diego Chargers
in 1993 while on his honeymoon from Australia, he went
on to break most of the team's punting records during
his years with the team. Darren finished his career
after the 2004-05 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.
He was named to 2 Pro Bowls, The 1996 all Madden Team
and the NFL Team of the Decade for the 90's, as well
as the Chargers 40th anniversary team and the 50 greatest
Chargers of all time. The Bennett Family retired to
Carlsbad to enjoy the sun and look for a new challenge.
Darren can currently be heard on the Rock 105.3 Chargers
Pre-Game show and is the owner of ATHLETICUTS, a sports
based haircut business in Encinitas.

Freshmen Offensive/Defensive Line
This is Coach Becker's second year coaching for the
LCC Mavericks. Previously, Damon coached football with
LCC Pop Warner for 4 years and has over 11 years experience
coaching youth sports in Encinitas and San Marcos. He
was an All League football player at University City
High School in San Diego and graduated in 1985. He attended
San Diego Mesa College, San Diego State University and
served in the U.S. Navy. Damon lives in Encinitas and
works as a land surveyor and civil engineering designer.
He and his wife, Dana, have 3 children, Ryan (13), Robbie
(11) and Molly (8).

Fourth
year Coach with LCC Mavericks. He's a 1982 All League
football player and a 1983 San Dieguito Mustangs graduate.
Andy's a native of Cardiff and has been coaching all
youth sports for over 28 years. Coach Brown is an involved
School Board Member for the Cardiff School District.
Andy and his wife, Krysti, are happily married living
in Cardiff raising their three children. Devin, a '08
LCC graduate and former Maverick cheerleader, a junior
in college. Dannii, a '10 LCC graduate and sophomore
in college, and Jake LCC sophomore football player.
I thank my family and friends for their support; especially
my wife Krysti, who shares me with your sons. I look
forward to another great Maverick seasonrin Brown.

This season will be Patrick's 11th year as a Maverick
coach. He graduated from San Dieguito High School in
1984 and earned "Mustang of the Year" in 1983. He is
a graduate of USD, receiving a degree in Business Administration.
Patrick heads up the Employee Benefit Department for
Cavignac & Associates, a full service insurance agency
serving San Diego County since 1993. Patrick and his
wife, Diane, have three children, Sam (16), Michael
(12), and Camella (10). ael (11), and Camella (10).

Coach
Fletes returns to LCC after 7 years as the head varsity
baseball coach at RBV. He has brings 15 years of coaching
experience, having been the head Freshman coach at LCC
before moving to RBV. Leo is married to Jeanne, and
has 3 kids Alexis (Doctorate @ Biola), Ashlye (BA at
Art Institute in Irvine) and Leo III (BA in Mathematics
at Pepperdine University). Leo will be teaching math
at LCC this year.

This
is Coach Collatos' 6th year coaching the LCC Mavericks.
Coach Collatos is entering his 31st year of coaching.
Prior to relocating to the North County Coach Collatos
coached in the greater Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
Coach Collatos graduated from Canoga Park High School
and attended Cal State University, Northridge. He is
the Publisher for a Scholarly Medical Publishing Company
and has lived in Encinitas with his wife, Glenda, and
three children for the past 10 years.

Coach
Gold will be entering his 2nd year with the freshmen
and his 8th overall year coaching high school football.
Ryan teaches special education at La Costa Canyon High
School. Ryan is a graduate of Willamette University
where he studied business economics and play football.
Ryan also coaches freshmen baseball in the spring. He
lives is Carlsbad with his wife Cassie his two girls
Brooklyn (6), and Cammie (4), and dog Nestle.

Coach
Henry is entering his 36th year of coaching. He will
be working with the offensive linemen during the 2011
season. He is a native San Diegan and a 1971 graduate
of Sweetwater High. Henry earned his degrees from Cal
Sate Fullerton and San Diego State. He is married to
Marina, a teacher at Westview HS in the Poway district
and is the proud father of two girls-Rhiannon a graduate
of CPSLO doing graduate work in Santa Cruz and Hannah
a freshmen at LCCOakcrest middle.

This is Coach Maquet's 3nd year coaching at LCC. Previously,
Mike coached at the Pop Warner level for 6 years along
with many years as a youth sports coach. Mike played
football at Torrey Pines and graduated in 1976. Mike
is a local General Contractor and enjoys surfing and
doing community services. Mike and his wife Hana, have
two children, Isaac (17) and Michelle (10).

Coach
Palmer is going into his fourth year of coaching high
school football, his first as a Maverick. He graduated
from Katy High School, where he played wide receiver
for the back-to-back Texas high school team of the decade.
Katy is also where he began his coaching career as a
student assistant. A former USATF All-American, Coach
Palmer attended Sam Houston State University to compete
in track and field, but quickly gave up the sport to
focus on gaining more experience in his true passion
of coaching football. He continued coaching Katy's 7on7
teams in the summer and assisted in their strength and
conditioning program. Coach Palmer's 2nd coaching stop
was at Willis (TX) High School. From there, he moved
on to coach at national power and 13 time Louisiana
state champion, Evangel Christian Academy. Putting his
coaching career on hold in 2008, he enlisted in the
Marine Corps. Late last fall, after returning from a
combat deployment in Afghanistan and now nearing the
end of his enlistment, Coach Palmer started to coach
again. He most recently worked with Calvin Christian
School and the 1st Marine Division football team before
coming on board with LCC. In the off-season, Coach Palmer
currently coaches at camps around the country with Football
University and has been selected to coach in the Eastbay
Youth All-American Bowl this Janurary. He is proud to
be apart of the tradition of excellence at LCC and looks
forward to bringing more championships home to the Mavericks.
Coach Palmer currently resides in Carlsbad with his
beautiful wife, Tyler.

Head Coach/V Defensive Line/ JV Defensive Coordinator
Casey
Sovacool enters his first year with Maverick Football.
Previously he has coached the last 9 years at Fallbrook
High School, serving as Varsity Offensive and Defensive
Line coach, as well as JV Head Coach, Offensive & Defensive
Coordinator. Coach Sovacool played football at Fallbrook
High, where he earned All-League Honors as an offensive
lineman in 2001 and was a starter on their 2000 CIF
Championship team. He is a graduate of Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo with a Social Sciences Degree containing
a Teaching Concentration. He will be teaching Special
Education at La Costa Canyon High School. Coach resides
in Carlsbad with his beautiful wife Lacey, who is the
Athletic Trainer at San Diego State University for Women's
Volleyball & Softball.

Adam
Tenney was born in Oceanside, California and was raised
in Carlsbad. He graduated from Carlsbad High School
in 2003 and played football at Northern Arizona University
with Coach Sovacool the following year. He then went
on to play at Palomar Junior College from 2004 until
2005. After Palomar, he finished his undergraduate studies
at San Diego State University with a degree in Kinesiology.
Adam obtained his single subject teaching credential
in physical education at SDSU as well. This is Coach
Tenney's second year coaching at LCC. He enjoys working
out, camping and playing sports.

Varsity Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
Coach
Toney enters his second year on the La Costa Canyon
staff with a wealth of football knowledge. Coach Toney
is a graduate of Poway High School. He will be the offensive
coordinator and the quarterbacks coach this fall season.
He has coached at Poway and Fallbrook High Schools,
and most recently Palomar College, where he was on the
staff with Coach Sean Sovacool. Coach Toney has experience
coaching both sides of the football and is a professional
well beyond his years. He is also a football clinician
with the Football Coaches Professional Growth Assoc.
(FCPGA), and has lectured or worked at over 50 clinics
in the past several years, traveling around the country
visiting various high schools and colleges working personally
with FCPGA founder and coordinator Bill Williams

This
is Jeff's second year on the Maverick staff. He graduated
from La Costa Canyon where he played running back and
wide receiver. Jeff attended the University of Arizona
and received his undergraduate degree in Education.
At the University of Arizona, he worked as an undergraduate
assistant for Arizona special teams coordinator Jeff
Hammerschmidt. Jeff's brother, Ryan, also played for
the Mavericks. Jeff currently works as an instructional
assistant at La Costa Canyon.

This
is Coach Young's 5th year with the Mavericks. He has
coached Pop Warner for 12 years and has recently acquired
his Teaching Credential for a new career in teaching
social science and coaching Mavericks football. Young
is married to his high school sweetheart, Bridgette,
and they have 3 children - Cannon (20), Caleb (15),
and Eden (9).

Athletic Trainer
Samantha grew up in San Jose, California and played
high school and college soccer. She is a certified Athletic
Trainer (ATC) and graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor's
degree in Kinesiology. She received her Master's degree
in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of
Northern Colorado. Sam has worked in a variety of sport
settings, including the High School, Junior College,
NAIA, and NCAA Division I levels. Her previous experience
includes her positions as the head athletic trainer
at Alliant International University, assistant ATC at
San Diego City College and the San Diego Siege WNBL
Basketball team, athletic trainer for the baseball and
women's soccer teams at the University of Northern Colorado,
as well as the assistant athletic trainer at Mercer
University in Georgia, working primarily with women's
basketball and men's soccer. Sam begins her 2nd year
as the head athletic trainer with LCC.
