Sean Sovacool
starts his first year as the head football coach after coaching 6 very
productive years at Palomar Community College as the Comets linebackers
coach and Special Teams Coordinator.
Sean's prep
career started at Fallbrook Union High School where he was a two time
1st Team All Avocado League and All North County Selection, and a 1st
Team All CIF selection as a Middle Linebacker for the CIF Division one
champions under head coach Randy Blankenship. From Fallbrook Sean played
two seasons at Palomar Community College under Tom Craft and Joe Early
respectively. While attending Palomar Sean was a 1st Team Mission Conference
Selection as well as a 1st Team Academic All American for the nationally
4th ranked Palomar Comets.
Upon the
completion of Sean's playing time at Palomar, he was awarded a full
athletic scholarship to Northern Arizona University to play football
for head coach Jerome Souers and the NAU Lumberjacks. After two seasons
of competition and course work with the Lumberjacks as a Big Sky Conference
Champion his junior year and, finishing his senior year third on the
team in tackles, Coach Sovacool obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Political
Science.
After graduating
from NAU as a Big Sky All-Academic selection, Coach Sovacool came back
to San Diego and obtained his teaching credential in Social Science
and PE from Cal State San Marcos and his Masters in Education from Cal
State University Bakersfield. While coaching football at Palomar, Coach
Sovacool was also the Coordinator of the Athletic Study Hall, and an
adjunct instructor with the Athletics, Physical Education, and Counseling
Department.
Coach Sovacool
will be a full time Physical Education teacher at La Costa Canyon High
School come the start of the fall semester.He and his beautiful wife
of two years Bryn Kuech Sovacool, a nurse at Rady's Childrens hospital
in San Diego, reside in San Marcos. Sean's brothers and sister also
teach and coach. His oldest brother Michael Sovacool coaches football
and teaches social science at Orange Glen High School, his youngest
brother, Casey Sovacool coaches football, wrestling, track and teaches
special education at Fallbrook Union High school, and his sister Molly
Sovacool will be starting her teaching and coaching career at Mesa Murrieta
as the head JV girls basketball coach and teaching American Sign Language.
Coach Sovacool's parents Mike Sovacool a retired Lt Col from the Marine
Corps, and Mary Kay Sovacool, an ER nurse at the Naval Hospital in Camp
Pendleton and antique entrepreneur for the Urban Barn in Escondido,
still reside in Fallbrook.

Bennett is a freshman at LCC in 2010 who brings a large amount
of football knowledge gained on NFL fields from a young age.
His observation skills and understanding of technical details
of the kicking and punting game will be a valuable addition
to the Mavericks in 2010. He will be assisted this year by Darren
Bennett, an 11 year NFL veteran as well as a mentor to many
current NFL and NCAA players.

This is Coach Becker's second year coaching for the LCC Mavericks.
Previously, Damon coached football with LCC Pop Warner for 4
years and has over 11 years experience coaching youth sports
in Encinitas and San Marcos. He was an All League football player
at University City High School in San Diego and graduated in
1985. He attended San Diego Mesa College, San Diego State University
and served in the U.S. Navy. Damon lives in Encinitas and works
as a land surveyor and civil engineering designer. He and his
wife, Dana, have 3 children, Ryan (13), Robbie (11) and Molly
(8).

Third
year Freshman Offensive Coordinator with LCC Mavericks. He's
a 1982 All League football player and a 1983 San Dieguito Mustangs
graduate. Andy's a native of Cardiff and has been coaching all
youth sports for over 27 years. Coach Brown is an involved School
Board Member for the Cardiff School District. Andy and his wife,
Krysti, are happily married living in Cardiff raising their
three children. Devin, a '08 LCC graduate and former Maverick
cheerleader, a junior in college. Dannii , a '10 LCC graduate
and freshman in college, and Jake LCC incoming freshman football
player. Andy dedicates his coaching to his brother Coach Darrin
Brown.

This season will be Patrick's 10th year as a Maverick coach.
He graduated from San Dieguito High School in 1984 and earned
"Mustang of the Year" in 1983. He is a graduate of USD, receiving
a degree in Business Administration. Patrick heads up the Employee
Benefit Department for Cavignac & Associates, a full service
insurance agency serving San Diego County since 1993. Patrick
and his wife, Diance, have three children, Sam (15), Michael
(11), and Camella (10).

This is
Coach Collatos' 5th year coaching the LCC Mavericks. Collatos
has over 30 years of coaching experience at the high school
level in northern Los Angeles and Ventura County. Nick graduated
from Canoga Park High School and attended Cal State University
Northridge. He is the circulation director for a medical publisher
and has lived in Encinitas with his wife, Glenda, and three
children for the past 9years.

Driver is a 4th generation San Diegian. He spent most of him
life living in North county, where he also played, and coached
football. He has a wife Rebecca and three children. Ryan, Jacob
and Rechael . The eldest Ryan graduated from San Dieguito high
school and is currently is a senior at Cal State San Marcos.
Jacob attended LCC, were he played football and Lacrosse. Jacob
now attends San Diego State, where he also plays football. Rachael
is currently a senior at LCC and is a Varsity Cheer leader.
Coach Driver is going on his 6th year of coaching and involvement
with LCC and their football program .Prior to that he coached
for San Dieguito Pop Warner(now LCC) for 8 years, and sat on
their board for 5 He has been involved in all levels of football
at LCC, but this year he will be head coaching freshman football.
He has also served on the LCC foundation board, headed up the
committee to rebuild the stadium and is heavily involved with
the new Fitness center project..

Coach Bronson is in his first year as a freshmen football coach.
He is a recent graduate of California State University San Marcos
and majored in Mass Media, and he is an LCC alumni. Coach Gannon
currently works at the YMCA in Encinitas; coaching flag football
and doing camps. He played football all four years at La Costa
and two years for coach Sovacool at Palomar Jr College. Coach
Gannon is looking forward to working with the Maverick students
and hopes he can help further their progression as an athlete
and overall as a person.

Ryan
Gold returns to the sideline after four years. Ryan is entering
his 9th year as a special education teacher at La Costa Canyon
high School where he also serves as the site department chair
as well as the District Coordinator for Special Education. Ryan
also coaches freshmen baseball in the spring. He lives is Carlsbad
with his wife Cassie his two girls Brooklyn (6), and Cammie
(3), and dog Nestle.

Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator / Varsity Defensive Backs
Jeff
Haviken, a La Costa Canyon alum, started his college career
at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT where he played cornerback
on the football team. He transferred to the University of San
Diego where graduated in 2006 with a degree in Business Administration.
This is Haviken's third season coaching with the Mavericks,
working with the Freshman, JV, and Varsity during his tenure.
He will be taking over the reigns as the Head coach and Defensive
Coordinator for the Junior Varsity and coaching the Defensive
Backs on the Varsity. He is the son of Jeff and Gwyn Krstich,
and his brother Garrett, is a senior on the 2010 Varsity team.
Haviken works as an Independent Contractor for a local promotional
incentive firm. He enjoys spending time with his family and
friends, bodysurfing at the beach, and traveling when he has
the time. He currently resides in downtown San Diego.

Henry is entering his 35th year of coaching. He will be working
with the defensive linemen during the 2010 season. He is a native
San Diegan and a 1971 graduate of Sweetwater High. Henry earned
his degrees from Cal Sate Fullerton and San Diego State. He
is married to Marina, a teacher at Westview HS in the Poway
district and is the proud father of two girls-Rhiannon a graduate
of CPSLO doing graduate work in Santa Cruz and Hannah an 8th
grader at Oakcrest middle.

This is Coach Maquet's 2nd year coaching at LCC. Previously,
Mike has coached at the Pop Warner level for 6 years along with
many years as a youth sports coach. Mike played football at
Torrey Pines and graduated in 1976. Mike is a local General
Contractor and enjoys surfing and doing community services.
Mike and his wife Hana, have two children, Isaac (16) and Michelle
(9).

McCormick was born and raised in North County San Diego. He
attended San Dieguito High School where he played wide receiver.
His football coaching experience includes assistant coach and
head coach in the LCC Pop Warner program. He has been married
for 21 years to his wife Laurie and they have a son David in
the 9th grade. Coach McCormick completed the Arizona Ironman
Triathalon in 2006. He currently teaches 4th grade at El Camino
Creek Elementary and has a masters degree in education.

Adam
Tenney was born in Oceanside, California and was raised in Carlsbad.
He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 2003 and played football
at Northern Arizona University with Coach Sovacool the following
year. He then went on to play at Palomar Junior College from
2004 until 2005. After Palomar, he finished his undergraduate
studies at San Diego State University with a degree in Kinesiology.
Adam obtained his single subject teaching credential in physical
education at SDSU as well. This is Coach Tenney's first year
coaching at LCC. He enjoys working out, camping and playing
sports.

Coach
Toney enters his first year on the La Costa Canyon staff with
a wealth of football knowledge. Coach Toney, a graduate from
Poway High School, will be running the offense and coaching
the quarterbacks this fall season. He has coached at Poway High
School, Fallbrook High School and most recently Palomar College
where he was on the staff with head football coach Sean Sovacool.
Coach Toney has experience coaching both sides of the football
and is a professional well beyond his years. He is also a football
clinician with the Football Coaches Professional Growth Association
(FCPGA), and has spoken and or worked at over 50 clinics over
the past several years, traveling around the country visiting
various high schools and colleges working personally with FCGPA
founder and coordinator Bill Williams. Patrick resides in Poway
and enjoys cards, playing "corn-hole" and grooming his beard.

is Jeff's first year on the Maverick staff. He graduated from
La Costa Canyon where he played running back and wide receiver.
Jeff attended the University of Arizona and received his undergraduate
degree in Education. At the University of Arizona, he worked
as an undergraduate assistant for Arizona special teams coordinator
Jeff Hammerschmidt. Jeff's brother, Ryan, also played for the
Mavericks. Jeff is currently pursuing his teaching credential
and would like to teach math in the future.

Coach
Wells owns a local real estate firm, KevinWellsSells.com, through
which he works as a real estate agent and investor. He and his
wife, Marilyn, have three children Whitney (Class of '08), Nicole
('11), and Roman ('13)-Mavericks all. Roman plays on the Mavericks
football team. Kevin graduated from Northglenn High School in
Colorado in 1984 where he was an All-State and All-American
lineman for the Norse football team. Wells attended San Diego
State University from 1984-1989 as an Economics major and played
center for the Aztecs football team. At SDSU, he was a four-year
letter winner, team captain, and two-time member of the All-American
team. Prior to his senior year, "Sporting News" voted Wells
the Nation's "Top Center." He was the starting center of the
1986 Aztec Championship/Holiday Bowl team. Wells signed with
the Denver Broncos in 1989 where he played until being forced
to retire due to shoulder injuries. Kevin serves on the La Costa
Canyon HS Foundation Board of Directors and is President of
the San Diego State Aztec Football Legacy Board of Directors,
a chapter of SDSU's Alumni Association. This is his 3rd year
as a coach at LCC.

Chris Williams
joined the La Costa Canyon Mavericks in April 2010. In his 2nd
season as a high school coach, Williams will be the running
backs coach, and help coordinate the returners on special teams.
The new mavericks assistant came to LCC after serving a season
in 2008 as a running backs, and defensive backs coach at his
allum El Camino High School in Oceanside, California. During
Williams playing days at El Camino he became only the 2nd running
back in school history to rush for over 2000 yards in a single
season and still holds a school record 308 yards and 6 touchdowns
in a playoff game. After graduating El Camino, Williams went
on to enjoy a successful collegiate career at Palomar college.
In his 2nd year of his 2 year stint at Palomar Williams went
on to rush for over a 1000 yards in a very crowed backfield.
From that season Williams was rewarded with a scholarship to
attend San Jose State University were he majored in Sociology.
Williams is currently pursuing a degree in Sports Psychology
with aspirations to pursue coaching as a lifetime job

is Coach Young's 4th year with the Mavericks. He has coached
Pop Warner for 11 years and has recently acquired his BA in
History for a new career in teaching and coaching Mavericks
football. Young is married to his high school sweetheart, Bridgette,
and they have 3 children - Cannon (20), Caleb (14), and Eden
(8).

Iniguez aka "Miss Tex" is the new Head Varsity Cheer Coach at
La Costa Canyon. Miss Tex has over 15 years of cheer and dance
experience and over 10 years of coaching experience. She is
a certified NCA Coach (National Cheerleaders Association) and
a certified NCA Judge. She is also AACCA certified (American
Association of Cheerleading Coaches & Administrators) and a
member of the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Miss Tex is thrilled to be working with the cheer squad! Go

Samantha
Villa, MS, ATC, LAT Sam grew up in San Jose, California and
played high school and college soccer. She also played softball,
tennis, ran cross country and track, and grew up skiing and
snowboarding. The sports she played and the injuries she incurred
sparked her interest in the physical therapy/athletic training
field. Sam graduated from San Diego State University with a
Bachelor's of Science Degree in Kinesiology in 2002, and worked
at the YMCA for a few years as a personal trainer and group
exercise instructor. She was certified as an athletic trainer
(ATC) in 2004 and began her first athletic training job as the
Head ATC for Alliant International University. In 2005, she
was also hired as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at San Diego
City College and was primarily responsible for the sports medicine
care for men's and women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball,
and baseball. While at City College, she also worked as the
ATC for the San Diego Siege WNBL Basketball team. In 2007, Sam
was offered a 2-year graduate assistant athletic training position
at the University of Northern Colorado, where she earned her
Master's of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Science. In
2009, she moved to Georgia to take the Assistant Athletic Training
position at Mercer University, working primarily with the Women's
Basketball and Men's Soccer teams. Sam's athletic training philosophies
are to provide athletes with the highest quality care in sports
medicine, to ensure safe and swift return to play, and to maintain
close communication with athletes, coaches, and physicians.
She is very excited to be at La Costa Canyon, and look forward
to an exciting, successful, and healthy year!
